ABOUT US

The following paragraphs aim to summarize our church’s beliefs. If you have questions about what we believe, or if you would like a copy of our full doctrinal statement, please contact the pastor.

The Scriptures
We believe
that the Bible, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inerrant and infallible product of God the Holy Spirit. He guided the human authors to produce the verbally and plenarily inspired Word of God in the original manuscripts. We believe that God has preserved His written Word, our sole authority for faith and practice. We deny that the Scriptures receive their authority from the Church, tradition, or any human source.

The Triune God:
We believe there is only one true and living God, Creator of heaven and earth. He is eternal, self-existent, infinite, and immutable. We believe He has one nature, one essence, and one substance. This one God reveals Himself as one Being in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The divine Persons are coequal, coeternal, and consubstantial. We deny that there are three gods or that the three Persons are three parts of God.

God the Father:
We believe in God the Father. He answers prayer, comforts His children, disciplines them in love, and, among other activities, reigns supreme, to whom glory is due. We deny that the Father is the same Person as the Son or Spirit.

God the Son:
We believe in God the Son, Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father. As God, the Son took on flesh in His incarnation without abandoning His divinity. He is fully God and fully human, possessing two natures in one Person as inseparable realities yet distinct entities without confusion, conversion, division, or separation. By conquering death, the Son offers humans salvation through their faith in His death and resurrection. We deny that the Son is the same Person as the Father or Spirit.

God the Spirit:
We believe in God the Holy Spirit, proceeding from Father and Son. He convicts humans of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He bears witness to the truth of the gospel. He baptizes believers into the Body of Christ. He is the agent of regeneration, the seal for believers, their guide, and their sanctifier. We deny that the Spirit is the same Person as the Father or Son.

Spiritual Gifts:
We believe God the Holy Spirit graciously gives gifts to believers to edify the local church. We believe that He gave miraculous gifts to individuals in the early church, such as apostleship, prophecy, speaking in tongues, and healing. These served the purpose of edifying the early saints in understanding and confirming God’s truth. We do not believe He gives miraculous gifts to individuals today. We deny that God the Holy Spirit is incapable of performing miraculous deeds today.

Spirit-beings:
We believe God created angels as a group of spiritual beings. We believe righteous spirit-beings administer God’s will while unrighteous spirit-beings attempt to pervert God’s will. We believe Satan and his followers will be judged and condemned by God when Christ establishes His kingdom. We deny that the present influence of Satan will subvert God’s sovereign plan.

Creation:
We believe God created all things in six literal days, resting on the seventh. We deny that God used millions of years and biological evolution to create the heavens and earth.

Humanity:
We believe humans are created in God’s image and after His likeness. Therefore, every human life is sacred, especially the unborn. We believe that God created humans as male and female with masculine and feminine roles. Since a person’s biology is linked to his or her gender, it is sinful to change genders. We believe that the human race is fallen in sin and that all persons are condemned to death apart from justification. We deny that sin has removed the image of God from humans.

Sexuality:
We believe that God created marriage for heterosexual monogamy: one man and one woman for life. We deny that God approves of homosexuality or polygamy.

Sin:
We believe that God created the human race without sin. Adam brought sin into God’s perfect creation by rebelling against Him. When Adam fell in sin, the human race fell in sin. Therefore, all people are sinners by nature and by conduct, deserving condemnation. Through faith in Christ Jesus, a person can be saved from sin and death. We deny that humans are born morally neutral or righteous.

Salvation:
We believe that sinners are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. He paid the full redemptive price for human sin by His death and resurrection. His death on the cross completely satisfies God’s righteous demands because He bore humanity’s guilt. Those who repent and believe in Jesus as Savior receive the imputed righteousness of Christ, thereby reconciling the person to God. We believe that Jesus saves those who trust Him as the crucified and risen Messiah. By trusting Jesus, the sinner is born again, becoming a new creation in Christ Jesus. The new birth is instantaneous and not a process. We believe that the new believer will desire to live in the newness of spiritual life in Christ. We deny that, apart from Christ or in addition to Christ, there is any other way for people to be saved.

Sanctification:
We believe that Scripture teaches four aspects of sanctification. Preparatory sanctification is that work of the Holy Spirit wherein He moves in a special, sovereign way in the life of an unbeliever. The result is that the person believes the gospel and trusts in Christ for salvation. Positional sanctification is that act of God whereby believers are, at the time of regeneration, forever set apart as belonging to God. Progressive sanctification is the process by which believers mature into the fullness of Christ. It is carried on in the life of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, self-examination, edification in the church, and prayer. Perfect sanctification comes when every believer is glorified in the presence of the Lord, free from every trace of sin and rebellion. We deny that the believer’s progressive sanctification contributes to his or her salvation.

Eternal Security:
We believe that all who are truly born again are kept by God the Father for Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. We deny that a genuine believer can lose his or her salvation.

Church:
We believe the church began at Pentecost. We believe the local church is God’s primary institution to carry out His work today. We believe that a local church is a congregation of immersed believers, joined by covenant for worship, fellowship, edification, and service. The church observes two ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that the church has two offices: pastors and deacons. We believe that the local church has the absolute right and responsibility of self-government, free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations, and that her one and only superintendent is Christ. We deny that the local church is subject to any other institution or organization besides the Savior, her Head.

Baptism:
We believe that Christian Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This displays a solemn and beautiful picture of the believer’s faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior. We believe baptism is a prerequisite to the privileges of church membership. We deny that Baptism provides any merit for salvation.

The Lord’s Supper:
We believe that the Lord’s Supper is the commemoration of Christ’s death until He comes. As a memorial, the bread reminds the church of Christ’s body; the juice reminds the church of Christ’s blood. We believe that baptized believers are the acceptable participants for Communion. We deny that the Lord’s Supper provides any merit for salvation.

Fellowship and Association:
We believe true churches can cooperate with each other in contending for the faith and the spread of the gospel. Each local church is the sole judge of the measure and method of its cooperation. On all matters of membership, polity, government, discipline, and benevolence, the will of the local church is final. We deny that true churches can have Christian fellowship with groups that deny, distort, or dilute the gospel.

Civil Government:
We believe that civil government is a divinely appointed institution for the benefit of human society. We pray for our magistrates, conscientiously honor them, and obey them insofar as they do not order us to violate the plain commands and principles of God’s Word. We deny that the government can dictate the doctrine of the church.

Things to Come:
We believe Jesus will come to rapture His Church before a seven-year tribulation, after which Christ will return to earth with His Church to rule in His kingdom for a thousand years. In so doing, we believe that God will fulfill the biblical covenants made with the nation of Israel. Though they are now dispersed among the nations, they will be re-gathered in the land of Israel and saved as a nation when Christ returns. He will be the King of Israel, ruling and reigning in Jerusalem. We believe in the bodily resurrection and judgment of unbelievers after the millennial reign of Christ. We believe in the everlasting existence and punishment of all unbelievers in the lake of fire and the eternal existence and blessedness of all believers in the new heavens and earth. We deny that Christ’s kingdom is merely spiritual. We deny that hell annihilates unbelievers.
